Dr. R Balasubramaniam – Founder, Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement, is a social innovator and leadership trainer. After he founded SVYM in 1984, he has been a development professional working for the marginalized, rural and Tribal community in Karnataka. He brings in his vast experience of managing an NGO with his initiatives to advocate change by sharing his knowledge with the stakeholders including the corporate sector. This has made him a practitioner – academician keen on addressing the critical issue of leadership in the development sector. His area of expertise includes Adaptive Leadership, Performance Leadership, Leading teams, Leadership in a Multicultural & International Context and Leadership for the Social Sector.
He has authored 5 books and he also writes extensively about Swami Vivekananda and on Development Issues in local Kannada and English newspapers and in his blog at rbalu.wordpress.com.
He latest book called “i the Citizen” is an attempt to understand citizen development and engagement. R. Balasubramaniam takes the reader through interpretations of development initiatives at the grassroots and what good governance means to ordinary people.
A qualified Physician, he has an M.Phil in Health Systems Management and an MPA from Harvard University, USA. He is a Tata Scholar, a Mason Fellow of the Harvard Kennedy School and a Fellow at the Hauser Center for Non-profits, Harvard University. He is the Frank Rhodes Professor at Cornell University, USA and Adjunct Professor, International Programs, University of Iowa, USA.
He teaches and runs leadership workshops at many Universities, Corporate houses, NGOs and colleges across the world.
